Do YOU Steam?

If you haven't added steam to your life, you definitely should. Let me elaborate and tell you more about what I mean by steaming and how it can help.


I started steaming during cold season. It was around November or December and like clockwork, I had caught a cold. I felt miserable, run down; I just wanted to sleep.


I heard about using apple cider vinegar as a way to clear my sinuses. Since then, I've added multiple types of essential oils to the mix depending on what I'm feeling. I switch between peppermint, oregano or tea tree oil.





I've passed along this knowledge to others. Steaming has helped people heal from the flu, the common cold, sinus infections and allergies (it even helps clear clogged ears). Plus, you can steam as often as you feel you need it. You could do it every few hours if you felt that was needed.


Here's what you need to have on hand:

A medium size sauce pan

A bottle of apple cider vinegar (with the Mother)

A towel that is large enough to cover your upper body (like a bath towel)

Something to keep time, like your phone

If you'd like, you can also use some of the essential oils like I mentioned. I recommend an oil that is safe to be ingested, not something cheap. doTERRA and Young Living are both amazing brands.




Fill your saucepan with enough water to cover the bottom of the pot. Boil the water. You want to be able to see steam rising but not quite a rolling boil. Add a capful of your apple cider vinegar. (If you add any essential oil, I recommend only 1 or 2 drops of peppermint and/or oregano as they are both very potent. Up to 5 drops of tea tree oil can be added.)


Remove pot from heat and place on top of pot holder. Get your towel and phone ready. Set your timer at 5 minutes to start. Eventually, you can work your way up to 7-10 minutes. Bring your face over the pot. Cover your head with the towel. Close your eyes and mouth and breathe. Your nose may start to run. Let it just run and drop into the water. This is a wonderful sign! It means your sinuses are clearing. Once your timer goes off, use your towel to wipe your face of any steam. It helps to have a tissue close by to blow your nose. Repeat as needed.
